One Harm to Your Worm Farm - Predators

This perhaps annoying to accept, when you are a worm farm keeper, but the animals you mean to supply with your worms may just be those you must shield your worms from. You built your worm farm essentially to rake in a few profits. So simply sitting by standing around, letting those animals eat away your produce, just won't do. You want to keep coming with a sure and steady level of produce to offer to people and establishments needing those worms.

These animals, when fed and kept on the same farm as the worms in your worm farm, maybe affecting your worm produce in ways you barely notice or would love to control. Various birds love to eat worms, so do foxes, snakes, toads, hedgehogs, slugs, leaches, beetles, and many parasites. So that's the first worry when protecting your worms.

Another worry here fears what you feed your worms. These would be the manure you probably get from livestock farms. You use those manure to feed your worms. The problem lies in the belief that those livestock ingest some variety of medication, which, if you don't comprehend, may negatively impact your worms. Those drugs may not always be cleanly digested by livestock, and so the residue stacks up in the manure, which then goes to your worms.

One other problem with manure feeds include cluster flies and mites which prey on your worms. So you'd better be in the be aware of which livestock farms you can have confidence in when getting manure as worm-feeds.

Associated with this is when children have access to your worm farms. Not simply may their inquisitive hands mishandle the worms, these children may also be affected by the left-over medication in the manure you feed your worms with. You'd best be providing large signs to hold children far from your worm farm.

As for your worm bins, you need good drainage, so that the water gets replaced. Stale water will be contaminated over time, essentially harming your worms. You'd likewise need to be careful about drainage material you use. Some use shreds of cardboard, but some of these cardboards may have been contaminated by pesticides, which will successively come into contact with with your worms.

One other cost-affecting factor is which other predator consume the feeds you give to your worms. Worms tend to eat a lot, and if the feed supply allotted to them gets consumed by some other predator, then the worms might not be eating as much because they should, or as you anticipate them. They'd suffer and can be leave their designated worm beds. Although the predator is not following on from the worms themselves, the effect is an identical: you may suffer a decrease in your worm produce. One specific problem here's the presence of raccoons on your farm, because these critters are inclined to find their way into hidden containers and can bare their sole latches.

For people who have birds on the same farm when you have your worms, there's no problem with these birds so long as you might find ways to keep them uninterested in your worms. So you might find methods to feed these birds in areas clear of your worms, to prevent them from being curious and finally finding your worms and eating them.

The last form of predators neither consume worm feeds nor live on your farm. If your worm farm is found in or is located in a densely populated region, thieves and trespassers or nosy neighbors. So you must be certain your thresholds aren't that easy to lock-pick, and that your fences discourage passers-by from simply jumping over them so they could snap up some wriggleys from your worm farm.

The Use of the Aronia Berry Plant for Landscaping and Its Use As an Edible Ornamental Plant

Introduction

Chokeberry plants are very good plants for growing as part of your landscape. The black chokeberry (or Aronia berry plant) was introduced to western gardens as a landscape plant around 1700, and that its value is reflected by its receipt of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Merit in 1972.

Landscape

The ornamental attributes of chokeberry plants include three seasons of interest: white flowers in spring, lustrous green foliage in summer and black bluish fruits in late summer, and bright yellow-orange-red foliage in autumn. There is growing interest in this plant as a multi-season native shrub for landscapes. Its adaptability to a wide range of soil conditions and freedom from major problems makes it a good candidate for wetland reclamation projects, roadside and highway plantings, parking lots and use in your garden and landscape.

The chokeberry or Aronia plant is a native North American plant. However recently this cultivar has been developed in Europe as an orchard fruit, but its attractive value was rapidly realized (as it began obtaining awards for its decorative value.). It is now a favorite ornamental fruiting plant grown the world over. It grows in zones 3-8.it is one of the most ornamental fruiting bushes you can grow.

In spring the Aronia bush is covered with clusters of white, sweet fragrant flowers. They are cold tolerant and avoid most frosts by blooming in late spring. This is followed by gleaming green Aronia berries that turn a dark bluish black in summer into early fall, and fire-red fall foliage. The round, pea-sized fruit can be eaten fresh although it has a distinct taste. It is known for making good and healthful juice that also blends nicely with other fruit juices. Aronia is NOT bothered by pests or diseases. Once established the Aronia bush is highly drought tolerant. It's very hardy, and the pea sized fruit can be eaten fresh. Fresh chokeberries right from the bush are not particularly tasty raw because of their astringency, some people like them when they are completely ripe. Aronia berries have a unique, satisfying flavor. Their astringency is the awareness that most people first notice. They will make your mouth pucker. The dry, puckering taste comes from being high in tannins. The secret is to freeze the berries before using them to break down the tannins. You must wait until September when they are fully ripe before you pick them. The berries can be used to make jam, syrup, juice, soft spreads, and tea.

One person described it as one of the most attractive fruiting bushes I have ever grown. It is a delight in the garden the whole year. Fragrant flowers, attractive fall foliage, and healthy berries make it an essential plant for astute gardeners.

In the spring clusters of sweet-scented white blooms develop among the shiny green to dark green leaves covering this 3- to 5-foot-tall, 5- to 6-foot-wide bush. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. The long-lasting flowers are enjoyably, and are followed by small berries that steadily mature to dark bluish black. The dark bluish black berries of chokeberry hang in groups of up to 12 berries. They do not require trellising, spraying, or bird netting.

The three most popular varieties are Viking, Nero and Autumn Magic. Viking and Nero were developed in Europe as an orchard fruit and recently shipped back to the United States here they are becoming popular. They are also sold as a favorite ornamental fruiting plant. Autumn Magic was developed in the United States from a seedling in the eastern part of the U.S. The Autumn Magic plant is a commonly sold ornamental cultivar. It was selected for its ornamental characteristic white flowers, glossy green leaves, red-orange fall foliage, and purplish black berries. It does not grow as tall as Viking and Nero. Viking grows to a height at maturity of 5 to 8 ft. Nero grows to a height of 3 to 5 ft.

Health benefits

Aronia melanocarpa is commonly known as chokeberry and has a very nice-looking purplish black color. Interest in Aronia berries has been growing because of its health benefits and as a natural organic food coloring. It has a very stable dark pigment.

Chokeberries belong to that group of purple berries that are in today's news concerning health and nutrition. It fights cancer and heart disease.

The plant produces dark pigmented berries that are extremely high in antioxidants, even higher than blueberries, higher than pomegranates, and higher than cranberries. Its juice has been reported to help people with heart conditions. Chokeberries have been a significant and important part of the Native American Indian diet since before Europeans came to America. It is high in antioxidants, anthocyanins, phenolic acid, flavonoids, vitamin C and trace minerals.

Summary

Chokeberry plants are very good plants for growing as part of your landscape. The plant produces dark pigmented berries that are extremely high in antioxidants. It has award-winning its decorative value. They are higher than blueberries, higher than cranberries, higher, even, than pomegranates! Its juice has been reported to help people with heart conditions.

How to Install an Infrared Sauna

So your infrared sauna has arrived. You can't wait to try it. Cool down. Don't push it. There are some steps left before you can enjoy your brand new infrared sauna.

Begin with checking that your packages contain. Find an instruction manual or some other piece of paper with all of the parts listed. Identify all of them, check for defects.

Your next goal is to become familiar with assembly process. It is very important to show some patience and to read sauna manual to understand how you will bring it all together. If you won't be confident with assembly steps you can make a mistake that will cost you time to disassemble and assemble the sauna again. Even worse, you can break or scratch something.

If you're not decided where to place your sauna yet, then it's right time to think about it. If you're owner of a classic infrared sauna cabin then look at the power cord and plug provided with the sauna. Make sure that it has expected type and fits your outlet. If you don't have an outlet preinstalled then call your electrician to install it, or do it yourself if you have sufficient experience.

When you know where your sauna will be standing, have an electrical outlet for it and understand all assembly steps then it is time to begin to put it's all together. No need to hurry, make each step with confidence and knowledge. If you're not sure consult with manual. Remember that it is the first time when you assemble this sauna model and there is nothing wrong with doing it slow. Well, I know I'm overemphasizing, but be careful anyway.

After that make the final touch and clean your sauna with damp cloth both inside and outside. The last step is to check that it works. Return to the instruction manual and read about controls. Then plug the cord in the outlet and turn on the sauna. Check that all lights and control panel work properly. If your sauna has an audio or a video system you need to check its functions too. Set the timer of your sauna for a typical session or slightly more (30-40 minutes) and wait. Don't go in as in case of malfunction you can harm your health. Check that in process and after there are no suspicious smells or smoke, that all heaters work (don't touch them, just place your arm before the heater and you should feel heat if it works). I recommend leaving your sauna open for a couple of days to let all manufacture smells to flow out.

You're done. I summarized all that I wrote in a short checklist you can scan if you'll want to recall something:

check that all parts are present and have no defects familiarize yourself with assembly process check that the sauna power plug matches your outlet check that the length of the power cord is enough to reach the outlet if you don't have the outlet then install one assemble the sauna carefully, with knowledge and confidence clean the sauna from inside and from outside with damp cloth do your sauna a test-drive to ensure that all is working properly: control panel lights heaters timer video/audio leave your sauna open for a couple of days to let manufacture smells flow out

While there is nothing revolutionary new in all that I wrote about infrared sauna installation, I find it nice to have all things in one place you can scan through to make sure you didn't forget anything. I hope this guide will be helpful.

The Village That Vanished

Gather round my people, gather round. And hear the voices of your ancestors in this tale of courage and sacrifice. These are the words from a masterpiece of Ann Grifalconi titled, "The Village that Vanished." Bravery and ingenuity flow from this exciting story of an entire village hiding from slavers, a story from the heart of Africa told by Ann Grifalconi, a great storyteller. It is an inspiring tale of three women's' courage and a village that refuses to die.

A similar story was told by a group of women from a remote village of Rangpur near Muzaffargardh that also refused to surrender to the wrath of nature and blunders of rulers aiming to destroy their lives, culture and habitat. Their spirits are high and they are ready to fight back.

Recently, my on-going search for flood affected communities took me to this strange land. After seeing the level of devastation and the history of disasters that hit this town, I was impressed with the determination and resolve of the local people.

A group of courageous women narrated their story while sitting in a make-shift camp near Muzaffargardh. The town of Rangpur, gradually vanishing from the landscape, was badly-hit by flash floods. History of this town goes back to more than 180 years and, as local accounts say, this used to be district headquarters and comprised of cluster of towns inhibiting western side of river Chanab and eastern side of river Indus.

In 1822 with the canal system set up in this area. Later, in early 20th century two main barrages were built. The local population has been hit by floods several times and has faced destruction of both nature and rulers. Floods in recent history (1973, 1976, 1995, 2000, 2010) have drastically changed the landscape of the area and badly altered the geography and population of Rangpur.

In 1938, the construction of Sidhnai Barrage turned out to be a turning point for this town. The barrage provides a link between the rivers Ravi and Chanab, especially to divert water during flood times. Heavy water discharged from river Ravi has been pushing the land mass that comprised of more than 43 villages toward western side of river Chanab. Taunsa Barrage also connects river Chanab with the Indus. Engineering defects in the barrage and canals connecting those have made these people vulnerable to shocks and disasters and threatened their lives in the area they have been living for two centuries.

After repeated incursions of water in the area and administrative adjustments with other tehsils and districts, Rangpur is now only a union council that used to be a district. In 2008, government spent more than Rs2 billion for remodeling of river embankments and canals from Taunsa Barrage. However, the efforts were to save the farmland of few influential families that illegally occupy the land on river bed. Flood protection walls around local villages were ignored.

The selective approach caused damage to lives, houses, farmland, cattle and livelihood of millions of people living around Muzaffargardh, Multan, and D.G. Khan. In Rangpur union council alone, more than 20000 people were directly affected and are still living in temporary shelters.

The engineering blunder, as the locals put it, was the main cause of damage to the population around Taunsa Barrage and Sidhnai barrage. If those engineering defect had been rectified on time, the flood would not have caused such devastation in this area.

Eight months after Rangpur was entirely submerged by floods, people are still in shock. They tell us that it feels as if they are still living in the midst of an ongoing disaster. Nothing has changed in the months except that the winter came and diseases hit them.

"Instead of things getting better, we are now in debt because we had to pay for all the medical treatment our families needed," say the local people. Certainly, walking through the destroyed village, one observes that things are not very different. The waters haven't yet receded after eight months. Not only were our crops destroyed, but also all water channels and infrastructure," add the local farmers.

"In newspapers, the government makes promises to help but on the ground they are putting more pressure on us. They refused to accept their responsibility. But we refuse to live in misery will rebuild our villages once again," says a women in the group.

The worst is yet to come; however, as villagers would need to cross the river to get to the destroyed land of their ancestors. This is a huge problem since they do not have resources to rebuild their village or recover their lives. There seems to be no hope that resources promised to these people will reach them in near future.

Similar stories are told by flood affectees in other parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan where the blunders and conscious selection of flood course caused devastation and, ironically, this was done to protect the interests and properties of a few influential.

Natural disasters are a regular phenomenon and difficult to control. However, with human efforts and ingenuity the effects can be mitigated. This lesson has been learned by many countries that are now well-prepare for such disasters. The recent Tsunami in Japan showed the strength of a society that refused to bow down to the natural disaster that hit them. The system provided them timely support, rescue and relief.

Our people know the art of survival and have strength to rebuild their lives. People have heard false promises, faced broken commitments, and tolerated oppression but have learn to survive in these circumstances. The bottom line is that people are in spirits and will continue to live despite all odds.

How to Eat an Entire Bag of Cheese Curds in 24 Hours Or Less

1. Upon leaving work, call home to check on the progress of dinner. 2. Talk to husband, who reports that the beef roast in the crock pot looks a little tough. 3. Ask husband to more thoroughly define "a little tough." Listen as he tells you that he is unable to cut into it. Make mental note to find out how to make a beef roast in a crock pot. 4. Go to local grocery store in search of a new dinner. 5. Spy freshly made cheese curds that haven't even been refrigerated yet. Imagine the squeak. Drool a little. Wipe your mouth and glance around to make sure nobody noticed. 6. Summon all your willpower and *walk past the cheese curds*. 7. Locate dinner in the store. Loop back around the entire store to look at the cheese curds. Pick them up. Put them down. Pick them up again. Curse the evil marketing powers that be who placed them smack in the center of the aisle to create situations just like this. 8. Buy the bag. Justify this by telling yourself that you are going to share with your husband and children. 9. Eat cheese curds all the way home. Delight in each squeaky bite. Justify this by telling yourself that you didn't have time to eat lunch at work and are simply replacing those missed calories. 10. Offer some to your husband and son when you arrive home, but don't let them hold the bag. Dole out 2 cheese curds to each. Justify this by telling yourself that the snack is not good for your husband or your son and you are protecting their health by limiting their intake. 11. Eat some as you make dinner. Justify this by reminding yourself that you had to make not one but two dinners this evening and you deserve a little treat. 10. Hide them in the back of the fridge so that nobody can find them. Justify this by telling yourself that you are keeping them out of easy reach so that you don't keep eating them. 11. Wonder why you are not hungry at dinner. 12. Eat cheese curds for a bedtime snack. Justify this by telling yourself that you didn't eat much dinner. 13. Go to bed. 14. Wake up. 15. Eat cheese curds for breakfast. Justify this by telling yourself that you need protein for the run you are going to take later that day. 16. Eat some for a morning snack. Justify this by telling yourself that you need to replace the calories you burned while running. 17. Eat some for a mid-mid morning snack. Justify this by telling yourself that those calories you expended while nursing aren't just going to replace themselves. 18. Decide to put cheese curds on the table for lunch to share with your family. Remove the bag from the fridge and realize with horror that there are only *three* cheese curds left. Eat them to hide the evidence. 19. Mentally review the situation. Sadly conclude that you can never, ever buy fresh cheese curds again.

Finding A Qualified Doctor For Botox And Other Cosmetic Services

When you have made the decision to undergo a Botox or other cosmetic service to reduce wrinkles, tighten facial skin or any of the many other popular physical enhancements, you want to know that you can trust your future appearance to the hands of the doctor you choose.

Finding and choosing a doctor for this important procedure begins with a process of elimination. One of the best ways to do this is to ask friends and family who have taken advantage of cosmetic surgeries already. They should be able to give you positive recommendations and warnings about the doctors they are familiar with. It is also a good idea to identify the different doctors convenient to your home or work. If you require follow up care and for many other situations, you will want to be able to easily schedule appointments and interviews with the doctor without having to plan in hours of travel as well.

There are a variety of doctors that offer cosmetic services, including Botox treatments. These different professionals include cosmetic dermatologists and surgeons, plastic surgeons, or medical spas. Cosmetic dermatologists have received more than twelve years of training and specialization and medical surgeons have similar backgrounds and have usually received certification by a recognized medical board. The medical spas often offer cosmetic services such as Botox injections, photo-facials, and microdermabrasion. The relaxed and casual setting of the spas can make you feel more comfortable if you arrange to go with a friend.

Once you have chosen the type of doctor you prefer to perform your procedures, you will next want to schedule an interview with the recommended doctors in your area. There are a few important questions to ask as you visit the different doctors.

Start by asking about the amount of experience the doctor has in both Botox and other cosmetic services. The precision and steady hand necessary for constructing perfect features is usually much improved by years of practice. You can ask the doctor to let you view some before and after pictures from some previous patients. Ask if the doctor will provide follow up care, especially if you happen to experience problems after the procedure.

You will also want to ask the doctor how much their services will cost. You will usually be expected to pay for the services before the treatments are performed, but if you are hoping for a doctor who will work out a payment plan with you, now is the time to find out if that is an option available to you.

After a satisfying interview, you should feel comfortable enough with the doctor whom you have chosen to go ahead with your cosmetic procedures, expecting the best.

Sony's Playstation 3 Double System Launch

When the Microsoft Xbox 360 was released with two different versions, the tactic was debated endlessly regarding the merits of offering consumers a lower-priced bundle with fewer features. Staring a $400 price point in the face probably prompted Microsoft to offer a lower cost package to point to when the Xbox 360's price was inevitably criticized.

The PlayStation 3 will probably blow those arguments out of the water in terms of scale as two versions launch, one console at a price point of $500, the other at a price point of $600. Most of the early adopters of the Xbox 360 opted for the premium bundle and expectations are that the PlayStation 3 crowd will be no different.

The two bundles each feature the infamous Blu-ray drive, a Bluetooth-enabled controller and an HDMI port for high definition output from the console. Similarities end there as the basic bundle includes a 20 GB hard drive to that package and calls it a day. Sony has priced that next-generation package at $500, a steep price to get a foot in the door of Sony's PlayStation 3 vision.

Naturally, higher cost comes with more bells and whistles. In the $600 premium bundle, all of the basic bundle's features are included but the hard drive is bumped up to 60 GB, Wi-Fi is built in to the console and an on-board flash card reader is included. While the basic model's hard drive can always be upgraded and a flash card reader can be added later with an adaptor, those upgrades will likely come at a cost higher than the $100 difference between the models.

One point of debate has been Sony's reluctance to include HDMI cables with either bundle, more or less requiring the consumer to purchase the cable to experience the high-definition gaming so central to Sony's marketing strategy for the PlayStation 3.

Composite cables can also produce a solid picture, so that might take some of the sting out of the announcement, but the move is still a disconnect from the marketing message describing the ultimate, high-end gaming experience. Sony's specific PlayStation 3-branded HDMI cable will retail for $50, but other HDMI cables can be had for less.

To round out the accessory costs of the PlayStation 3, the console's special SIXAXIS controller, complete with motion-sensing ability, will retail for $50. A remote specially made for the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray player will retail for $30 and perhaps the most important accessory of all, games, will see a $60 price point for Sony first-party games.

Sony has truly entered a new realm for high cost and it will be up to the PlayStation 3 to make consumers and critics alike focus less on the money involved and more on the high-end gaming experience that Sony is trying to achieve. Time will tell whether Sony will emerge the victor.
